First construction site event including concept presentation
Valsana offers “Arosa’s living room”

Dr. Götz Bechtolsheimer, representative of the owner family Kipp-Bechtolsheimer:
“The atmosphere at the Valsana will be relaxed and laid-back – guests will be able to enjoy a welcoming, homely setting. At the same time we are going to focus on sustainability, reflected in an energy recovery system and a modern, regional food concept. Our latest hotel is aimed at cosmopolitan, epicurean and active guests who wish to spend their leisure time in the Arosa mountains and enjoy high standards of hospitality.”

After an initial construction site event, work is now continuing apace on the new Valsana Hotel & Appartements in Arosa in preparation for the opening. The three-sectioned complex at the entrance to the village will comprise a total of 40 double rooms and junior suites, nine apartments with hotel service and 11 freehold apartments. The accommodation facilities will be supplemented on the ground floor with a Coop supermarket, the Valsana medical practice and a branch of Gisler Sport. “It’s an immense pleasure for us to be here in Arosa,” said owner family representative Dr. Götz Bechtolsheimer at the first construction site event. The Valsana will be an amply sized hotel operating to the very highest standards, though without being specifically oriented to the star system in common use in the luxury hotel sector. The main focus will be on creating a relaxed, laid-back sense of well-being, said Dr. Bechtolsheimer.

Architect Roman Mooser of Mooser, Lauber, Stucky has a vision of the new hotel as a “hovering wooden cube” that blends in perfectly with the mountain scenery of Arosa. Mooser explained that the newly built Alpine hotel will embrace its natural surroundings while at the same time drawing the natural setting into the village. As is always the case in the Tschuggen Hotel Group, Carlo Rampazzi will be responsible for the interior design. He intends to use selectively positioned items of furniture and a subtle blend of styles to create a scene that does not come across as new. When it is finished it will “have a soul”, says Rampazzi. He approached the design “using nature itself as a painter,” explained the interior designer.

The new Valsana food concept presented at Restaurant Twist features diverse cuisine that offers a distinct combination of culinary and gourmet culture with modern, healthy nutrition. With a selective choice of natural regional products and high-quality foods and drinks, the aim will be to give guests well-being, vitality and energy. The restaurant has a lakeside terrace with a view of the mountains, and there is outdoor seating in the sun at all hours of the day. On the inside Restaurant Twist has a pronounced feeling of spaciousness: the reception, lobby, lounge, restaurant and bar have been merged to create an ample area that is able to house a range of different functions and services areas. “The hotel restaurant is to be the new Arosa living room,” said Dr. Götz Bechtolsheimer at the presentation of the concept.

There are also unique views from the generously sized rooms and the balconies. The highlight here is the Loft Suite, which looks directly out onto the lake and the Arosa mountain peaks. The future price structure will be determined by demand and prices will be set by the day.

The 115-year-old Sporthotel Valsana at the entrance to the village of Arosa was closed down at the beginning of April 2015 and work started on demolition and rebuilding the following month. The new hotel is owned by the Tschuggen Hotel Group, which also runs the Tschuggen Grand Hotel in Arosa as well as other hotels in St. Moritz and Ascona.
The Valsana Hotel & Appartements is due to open on 7 December 2017; it will remain open for its first winter season until 8 April. For full details and bookings, see www.valsana.ch
